Quantifiers

We use the quantifiers ( much, many, a lot of, etc..), to indicate or talk about quantities, amounts and degree.

Example: A lot of scientists use researches as a method to develop sciences.

Imperatives

Uses of imperatives:

Give orders/commands

Example: Wake up now!

On signs

Example: Give away.

Make an invitation

Example: Have some tea.

Give instructions

Example: Take one pill every 12 hours.

Give warnings/prohibitions

Example: Watch out!

Give advice

Example: Do not eat too much.

Requests

Example: Please reconsider ...

Let us = let's

We use let us/let's to make suggestions.

Positive form: Let's + infinitive verb

Example: Let's go to the movies.

Negative form: Let's + not + infinitive verb

Example: Let's not eat at this restaurant.

Comparative adjective

Comparative adjectives are used to compare differences between the two objects they modify (larger, smaller, faster, higher) They are used in sentences where two nouns are compared

Form: Noun (subject) + verb + comparative adjective + than + noun (object).

Grammatical rules

One-syllable adjectives: add -er

Adjectives ending one vowel & one consonant: double consonant add -er

One or two-syllable adjectives ending consonant + y: add -ier

Two-or more syllable adjectives: more + adjective. Irregular.

Examples

Sydney is bigger than the Gold coast.

Is your sister smarter than you?

My new car is better than my old one.

*We often use "the" with comparative adjectives to show that one thing depends on another:

The faster you drive, the more dangerous it becomes.

The more honest we become, the happier we feel.

Superlative Adjective

It's an adjective that takes a comparison to the highest or lowest degree.

A superlative adjective compares three or more nouns.

Form: Noun (subject) + verb + the + superlative adjective + noun (object).

Examples

William is the best student in the class.

This month is the hottest month of the year.

Cambridge is one of the most reliable sources for English.

*After superlatives, we use in (not of) + places.
